- THE HEALTHIEST COOKWARE MATERIAL — NO COATINGS, JUST PURE STONE: no harmful substances are ever released into your food. Soapstone is immune to the corrosive action of acid and alkaline foods, it doesn’t alter its composition nor the taste of food. – THICK WALLS AND LID retain steam, cooking the food with its own moisture. Its natural non-stick property allows you to cook with little or no oil, letting the taste naturally come forth, while all the food’s nutritional qualities remain intact.
- AMAZING THERMAL PROPERTIES – PROPAGATES HEAT: cooks your food integrally and not just from the bottom, spreading the heat evenly throughout its entire surface. — RETAINS HEAT: allows you to bring your food from the stove straight to the dining table and keep it warm throughout your meal – HEAVY DUTY: cook freely on the stovetop or in the oven: soapstone withstands temperature up to 2.000°F without degrading by heating nor peeling down from reheating.
- ONE TIME SEASONING: unlike cast iron, you’ll need to season soapstone cookware only once, before using it for the first time. No need for re-seasoning, soapstone doesn’t rust. Having no coating, soapstone is not liable to chipping with shocks nor to get matted on the inside, as it often happens with enameled Dutch ovens.
- NON-STICK — Soapstone is non-porous, its natural non-stick property prevents food from sticking to the bottom of the pan. — ODOR-FREE: being non-porous, food doesn’t seep through its surface, leaving it odorless after cleaning. – EASY TO CLEAN: so easy to clean you won’t even bother to put it in the dishwasher. Can be washed like a common pan, without any special caution. Not affected by citrus-based cleaners.
- ECO-FRIENDLY – 100% HANDMADE IN BRAZIL with recycled material. We buy the leftovers of block cutting from mining companies, transforming into valuable objects what otherwise would become environmental waste. — ENERGY SAVING: once the right temperature is reached, you’ll need just a very low flame to keep it steady.
- MADE TO LAST A LIFETIME — Soapstone cookware are long-lasting tools that keep their features, properties and looks over time. – UNIQUE: no two pieces are exactly alike, each one is not only a tool but also a work of art, fully handmade.
From the brand

Cookstone is an industrial handicraft company that focuses its production on quality and innovation, manufacturing unique kitchen tools that bring together tradition and modernity.

Why we do it
Our mission is to create objects that enhance your quality of life. It is no use striving to eat healthy food if you don’t cook it with healthy cookware that preserves food’s flavor and its nutritional qualities. We want you to relax and cook slowly, with passion and inspiration, as we do in Brazil.
How we do it
In our video “How a soapstone pane is made” we show the most rudimentary way of making a soapstone pan. Cookstone, on the other hand, uses semi-automatic lathes, which permit a faster, more efficient and standardized production, with a better finish and less effort for the artisan. But the method is still the same since the Middle Ages: a process that requires the skills of a master craftsman.

SUSTAINABLEOur products are manufactured with the best quality material, selected right from the quarry. We buy leftovers of the cutting of blocks from mining companies, thus helping to prevent stone remains from being dumped into the environment. |
100% HANDMADE IN BRAZILWe transform in valuable objects what otherwise would become environmental waste. No two pieces are exactly the same, each one is not only a tool but a work of art, fully handmade. |
THE REAL THINGMany cookware on the market are sold as GRANITE, but the truth is that these are aluminum pans with a PTFE (i.e. Teflon) coating imitating stone. Cookstone’s cookware is made of pure soapstone, no coatings. Our cookware is unique and made to last a lifetime. Many people in Brazil and all over the world still cook with the soapstone pans they inherited from their grandparents. |

ONE TIME SEASONING
Before you start cooking, soapstone cookware must be properly prepared. Seasoning is carried out only in the beginning and does not need to be repeated. Unlike cast iron, soapstone doesn’t rust. Instructions for this quick and easy process are included in each box.
Once the treatment has been completed, the stone will change its hue from grey to charcoal black, still showing the beautiful natural patterns of the stone. You may grease and heat the cookware once again if you prefer a deeper hue. Daily use and contact with food will eventually darken the stone. If you choose to preserve the original grey color, sand it with a fine grade sandpaper after use.
AN ANCIENT TRADITION
This soapstone cookware, mostly hooped with copper or wrought iron, was extensively used by families in northern Italy. It was often the only piece of cookware used to cook almost any food.
HOW OUR PASSION FOR SOAPSTONE COOKWARE BEGAN
Like most Italians, I’ve always enjoyed cooking. Since I settled down in Brazil in 1990, I have been using a wonderful tool for almost all my recipes: soapstone cookware. At that time I couldn’t imagine that besides being my favorite utensil, soapstone cookware would become my core business in a not so distant future. I established my import-export company in 1991 and traded many different products since then. At the turn of the century, on a trip to Italy, I stumbled upon a fair demand for this cookware, which I thought was a typical Brazilian ware. I was surprised to know that soapstone pans were produced on a fairly large scale in northern Italy since the late Middle Ages. The “laveggi” made by local craftsmen were widely renowned and even exported to neighboring regions. I resolved to test the market, and the demand was so big I soon had to set up my own plant. Since then we have spread our products all over the world, working with many top-notch distributors and retailers such as Pentole Agnelli in Italy and Neiman Marcus in the USA.
